Restaurant Review: Edith’s in Cabo San Lucas, MX

The coast of Baja California is rich in seafood, particularly shrimp, lobster, mahi, and tuna. So it was fortunate that we happened to score reservations on our last day at Edith’s. The menu features a regional fusion of steaks and seafood with local ingredients. Prime cuts of upmost quality imported beef and freshly-caught local fish and lobster, chicken breast, Caesar salad, Chile Poblano and hand-made tortillas are just a few expressions of the culinary celebration of life in Baja.

A loving, privileged view of Medano Beach and the world famous Arch of Cabo San Lucas, candle lights and palapas set the atmosphere for an unforgettable culinary experience. The restaurant is a family run enterprise that offers an array of seafood as well as chicken, salads, and carne asada items. The very helpful staff are happy to translate for you if a dish is unfamiliar.

Fresh Herbs

The menu is seafood centric. Fresh fish is brought in from the Pacific Ocean and Sea of Cortez in Mexico. The Orchards of the Todos Santos oasis have traditionally supplied vegetables to the Cape region, happily, nowadays some varieties are grown that, up to a few years ago, here were completely unknown.

This excellent tostada arrived at the table with roasted salsa’s that were deeply delicious. They pride thereselves on  homemade sauces and salsas, most of which have a healthy dose of heat associated with them.

The caesar salad is proudly prepared at your table, for two or more diners, according to the original recipe from the Caesar’s Hotel in Tijuana, probably the best known dish originating in Baja.

The dish we ordered was called the Wally Special: plump grilled butterfly shrimp, seared tuna steak, two fresh grilled lobsters, and grilled filet mignon steak accompanied by baked potatoes with aromatic herbs and stir-fried vegetables. It easily feeds four.

Other items you may want to check out include the Coqueta “flirt” Salad, a fresh explosion of flavors to the palate. From the farms in Miraflores town, cultivated with fresh spring waters of the local mountains, baby organic lettuce and a potpourri of the freshest diced seasonal fruits , cover with a honey, gringer, hibiscus flowers liquor, Dijon mustard and other fine herbs… from chef Jesus. Today’s Soup, Bisque or Chowder, depending on the freshest produce from the orchards of Todos Santos or the catch of the day in Punta Lobos; different every day. Your waiter will gladly inform you. Fish fingers- the freshness of our local fish, sealed in breaded chunks with a dipping side of tartar sauce.

Edith’s is a dependable choice for excellent, if pricey, meals in a gorgeous setting .
