My favorite holiday recipe is called Green Pepper Casserole (or “GPC” as we call it). I don’t think we have a written recipe in the family anymore, but we are pretty sure that my grandma found it in a 1950’s casserole cookbook. It’s basically green peppers, stuffing and LOTS of cheddar cheese, all baked into gooey perfection. It’s not a Christmas Dinner (or Thanksgiving) without it. Granted, I’m also a sucker for some good ole’ Honey Baked Ham.

Do you have a favorite Christmas candy?
I’ve never been a huge candy person, but I love mint and candy cane flavorings for hot chocolates. Various types of hot chocolates in general are a weakness of mine.

What’s your favorite Christmas memory and is there a toy you received that to this day still makes you smile thinking of it?
My parents (I mean, Santa…) got me a doll house one year. It was placed next the tree with a giant bow – no wrapping. The next morning, however, when I peeked over the railing and saw my older sister and parents all sitting around it, I thought that they had unwrapped it without me. I lost my mind. I thought my life had ended, despite my family’s earnest attempts to convince me otherwise. And then I found out my dad was filming the whole thing, so he showed the crying video to my cousins at Christmas dinner later that night. Cool. Thanks Papa Barr. By the way, I totally still have that doll house at my parents’ house.

What sort of things did you get in your stocking as a child?
Themed cartoon band aids (I guess my parents worried about me), chocolate covered coffee beans (because even back then, I was an addict) and new records (when Tower Records still ruled). New records were also big in our family’s Easter baskets…I just figured Santa and the Bunny were friends.

Do you have a favorite Christmas album?
Billy Gilman. There is no comparison. It’s my all time favorite to this day.

We have a bigger platform than we have ever had, I want to take full advantage of it and touch as many people as possible through my music. I got a McDonald’s playset when I was a kid, it’s weird now, but when I was 5 it was the coolest thing ever. It had a drink machine, mini cups and trays, and you could put a piece of bread in this thing and it would “paper shred” it into “fries”. I was so mad when we finally got rid of it hahaha.

Anything chocolate.

What’s your favorite Christmas memory?

My grandparents used to come every year for Christmas (they lived 4 hours away). I remember one time my grandma got us Chinese checkers as a gift. I was playing with her Christmas Eve. She would make her move, then I’d make mine, and when I looked up to tell her it was her turn, she’d be asleep. Every. Single. Time. I was so frustrated as a little girl, but looking back it was too funny.

GORDON: Coffee with Silk Almond creamer. I rather have coffee over candy any day.

What’s your favorite Christmas memory?

REAGAN: Growing up, I loved the days when all of my family was together in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh was where I spent Christmas every single year. Christmas Eve was a big, fun party and Midnight Mass and Christmas Day was the big dinner & gift opening. The houses were filled with family, extended family, and friends. It was something that I’ll hold onto forever.
GORDON: Hanging out on the Jersey boardwalk after going Christmas shopping (because it’s usually warm now in December).

Is there a toy you received that to this day still makes you smile thinking of it?

REAGAN: Yes. There was a baby doll that cried that I really wanted as a kid. For some reason, I started snooping in closets before Christmas and I picked up a wrapped box and I heard a cry from inside the box. I screamed to my Mom, “Santa brought my baby doll!” She said to me, “No, he didn’t!” Oh, but he did.
GORDON: My first electric Global guitar from Sears. It makes me smile remembering what happened to it as I was emulating some of my more aggressive windmill arm swinging guitar heroes.

Do you have any favorite tradition’s or favorite movie’s for the holiday season?

REAGAN: I love watching ALL of the Christmas classics, like Charlie Brown Christmas, Frosty and Rudolph. Even though I’ve seen them a hundred times, it just really gets me in the holiday spirit. For the past 10 years, its also become tradition to watch “A Christmas Story” on Christmas Day…”FRAGILE.”
GORDON: Since I finally found most of my family after many years of searching …(long story your readers might enjoy for another time) we’ve made it a tradition to spend the Holidays together. It has brought tremendous meaning to my life and helped redefine my work as an artist.

My mom, sisters and I have a Christmas drink (hot cocoa, a hot toddy or two), then take a walk to look for mistletoe, hehe. Once we find some, we hoist one of us into a tree to retrieve it. We watch it on Christmas Eve every year after a going to the candlelight service, usually in matching pajamas, and I sing “Sisters” with my sisters and “Count Your Blessings” to my brother. When we were young I would put him to sleep singing that song. So many good memories associated with that movie.
