Who are your biggest musical inspirations?
I grew up listening to all of the power vocalists, so naturally I loved artists like Celine Dion or Whitney Houston, but as I grew older I started finding inspiration from r&b soul, pop, adult contemporary, and of course country. Lately, I have been incredibly inspired by the organic singer-songwriters such as Brandi Carlile and Holly WIlliams. But I truly love most all music!
What moment in your music career is your favorite so far?
I’ve had some incredible performances such as performing on the Grand Ole Opry stage, singing for the troops overseas, and being on the American Idol stage. But, my favorite musical moment was when I sang the Star-Spangled Banner live on ESPN for Monday Night Football for my home team, The New England Patriots against the Buffalo Bills. I will never forget that night, or the excitement I felt when I stepped on the field.
What is the story behind your new single “Take Your Name” that just released?
I wrote “Take Your Name” in 30 minutes on a plane visiting my sister in upstate NY. I had the song idea saved on my phone for a few weeks, and suddenly I felt super inspired. I took out one of those barf bags, wrote the entire song, and made one lyrical change in the chorus. When I got back to Nashville, I took out my guitar and found the chords that matched the melody I was singing in my head. It truly is the perfect song for anyone wanting to take their man’s last name!
What were your Valentines plans this year? Did you make anything delicious?
I’m spent this Valentine’s Day telling as many people about “Take Your Name” as possible! I’ve put so much work into this song, and I can’t wait to let people hear it, share it, and get it stuck in their heads. I’ve been on a health kick lately, so I think this Valentine’s Day I am going to splurge and have some yummy chocolate!
What is one of your favorite recipes?
I love Brussel Sprouts! I even have it as a Christmas ornament 🙂 So this recipe for Himalayan sea salt and honey Brussels sprouts is one of my favorites.
