“12 Cocktails of Christmas” Featuring Mark Bray’s Poppop’s Christmas Cocktail
Christmas has always been a special time in my home. Because our family is spread out all over the country, and at a time all over the world, it was the one time a year where everyone was together. As I’ve gotten older, and dearly loved family members have left us, I can’t help but think back to all the memories of the holidays that they helped make special. One of those family members, in particular, is my grandfather. Being the patriarch of the family meant he was sort of the ringleader of the holidays when they were held at his and my grandmother’s house.
There were countless traditions, but for the sake of this article, I’ll just focus on the one: Poppop’s Christmas Cocktail. Or, as anyone outside our family would call it: a Brandy Alexander. Ever heard of it? Probably not! That’s because it falls into the realm of the forgotten cocktails of yesteryear.
This delicious holiday Cocktail is, and will always be, one of my favorite Christmas treats! Thanks Poppop!

-1oz Brandy (He used Mr. Boston, but any will do as long as it’s not flavored)
-1 oz Creme de cocoa
-1oz sweet cream
-Fresh ground nutmeg for topping. (Ground cocoa can also be used instead)

Instructions: (this is super easy!)
1. Combine all ingredients in a mixing tin (minus the nutmeg) and shake with ice.
2. Strain into a martini glass or cocktail glass.
3. Drizzle ground nutmeg on top.
4. Enjoy!
What is your favorite Christmas candy?
Candy? No way! I’m all about the Christmas cookies!

What’s your favorite Christmas memory?

When I was a kid, my dad was stationed in Germany with the US Army. My favorite memory would definitely be going to the Christmas Market with my family. The Christmas Market that’s held every year in Nürnberg Germany, where we were stationed, is a huge event. I can’t wait to go back with my children someday.

Is there a toy you received that to this day still makes you smile thinking of it?

I would have to say my G.I. Joes and other action figures always make me smile. Who doesn’t like a new G.I. Joe?

What sort of things did you get in your stocking as a child?

We would always get a chocolate Santa, gum, and other little things in our stockings. Sometimes, since I grew up in Florida, Santa would think he’s funny and put in the occasional Florida Orange in there!

Do you have a favorite Christmas album?

The Three Chipmunks Christmas, and the Muppets Christmas album, of course!

Do you have any favorite tradition’s or favorite movie’s for the holiday season?

You can’t have a holiday season without watching It’s A Wonderful Life, or Christmas Vacation!

What’s been your favorite album/song of 2017?

2017 has had some great music. I’m an old school guy, so I’d go with Midland’s Drinking Problem or, of course, Garth Brooks’ Ask Me How I Know.

What are your hopes for 2018? Any exciting plans?

We have so many incredible plans in the works. Everything from great new music, to new cities to perform in. I can’t wait to share it with all of you! However, the thing I’m the most excited for? My baby girl is almost here! My wife and I are expecting our first child at the end of February! We can’t wait!
