Interview: Artist and Food Lover Benji, Releases Debut Album ‘Come Home Now’

Tell us a little about your debut album Come Home Now. Where did your inspiration come from?

The inspiration behind the name and most of the content in ‘Come Home Now’ was my journey back into my faith… However being a 20-year-old kid, there were some romances and other things that came into play and brought inspiration for these 13 songs.

What is your favorite song on the album?

The outro, “Sing Over Me.” That came from such a real place. When I perform it, it’s like everyone disappears and I just get to sing my heart out to God like I did the night I wrote it.

@thebenjimusic Today’s the day! Apple Music/iTunes, Spotify, and all of that. I released this independently so your support means so much.

Who has made the biggest impact on you and your music?

Man.. that’s a tough question. My mom, Kim Hill, is a legend and is the reason I started doing music so young, she’s amazing. On the Hip-Hop side guys like Lecrae, Derek Minor, and John Givez, and many many more have inspired me.

Now that the album is out, what can we expect on the back of it? A particular single, writing for the next album?

Working on the next project for sure, but wanting to get on the road and working with a team of people to take the music to the next level. I’m happy with this project but know the sky’s the limit.

If you could perform a duet with anyone, who would you choose?

That’s a great question! I’d love to do a song with Justin Bieber. A million people come to mind, but the Biebs jumped to the front.

@thebenjimusic Jeni’s was 50 shades of lit tonight for their grand opening giving away free ice cream

Time for the fun questions! Do you prefer to cook at home or go out to eat?

Go out! Trying to learn how to cook. Not going so well.

What are three things you can always find in your refrigerator?

Iced coffee, halo oranges, and leftover take out.

After playing a late show, what is your go-to food?

Chicken fingers

Born and raised in Nashville you have seen this town really grow! Where are some of your favorite places to go eat?

SatCo, Tazikis, Fido, Buthchertown Hall… so many good places!

Anywhere you haven’t been in Nashville you have been dying to go?

Little Octopus!

@thebenjimusic I forget the extreme level of hip Nashville has reached until I show friends from out of town around

If you could eat or have a drink with one person dead or alive, who would it be and what would you have?

C.S Lewis… literally whatever he wanted to eat. Probably fish and chips or something. That would be epic.

Other than food, music, and touring what else do you like to do?

I love clothes! Working on starting a brand! I love helping people, doing ministry, that’s what I’m passionate about!

Now for a little Quick Fire!!

Hamburger or Hotdog? Hamburger!!!

Buffet or sit-down dinner? Sit-down dinner

Soup or salad? Salad

Baked or fried? Fried

Brussels sprouts or cauliflower? Cauliflower

Breakfast for dinner or dinner for breakfast? Who eats dinner for breakfast?

Waffles or pancakes? Pancakes
