What was a typical dinner or family meal like for you growing up?

Momma cooked just about every night. We didn’t always sit at the table together, but we always ate together, and spent time with family.

Being an Alabamian, where are some of your favorite places to get southern classics?

I LOVE to go to “Ezell’s Fish Camp” in Nanafalia, AL. I love the seafood there. It’s on the river and a perfect setting!

What is your favorite music to listen to while you cook?

Traditional Country!

Any similarities between putting together a good meal and making a good record?

Is pulling out flavors in ingredients like capturing sounds from instruments? Absolutely. For me, it’s about adding a little something original and different that adds to “the special recipe” that’s being created.

What is your go-to weeknight meal?

Honestly, anything from hot dogs and homemade french fries, to having canned chicken and quick rice on hand to make a quick chicken and rice!

After playing a late show, what is your guilty pleasure food?

Oh wow, let me think, chocolate!

What’s a typical day like for you (food-wise) when you’re at home and how is that different from when you are on tour?

I don’t eat at the times I need to when I’m home since I don’t have a regular schedule. When I’m on the road, I fit planning my meals or eating times in better!

Tell us about one memorable meal you’ve had during your travels. What did it involve?

The best halibut I ever ate is my most memorable road meal. I was in Las Vegas with my husband Roland.  It was expensive. And BOY was it good!

Is there anywhere you like to eat in Nashville?

Yes, Taco Mamacita!

Taco Mamacita, Nashville

What is your favorite spice/ingredient?

Cayenne Pepper

If you could pick one food to eat every day for the rest of your life, what would that be?

Does coffee count? =)

What was your biggest cooking disaster?

Ew, I have had a few! Probably the time I overcooked two hams in the same morning, on Thanksgiving Day.

Is there anything that you don’t enjoy eating?

Pigs feet

Where do you get your recipes? Any favorite cookbooks?

My late mother-in-law and best friend, Ms. Rachel, and my Momma and Daddy mixed with a few book recipes, plus my own additions!

Do you have a favorite brew/wine?

Wild Turkey American Honey

So what is your favorite recipe to make for your family?

Lima beans and sausage, homemade coleslaw, homemade fries and cornbread!

Could you give us a secret killer recipe?

My roast recipe, to me, is killer! I never knew why roasts were never tender or turn out the way I wanted them to. So, I always cook my roast on low temperature all night and for most of the next morning. I season with salt, pepper, garlic, creole, celery salt, and onion soup mix! Melt in your mouth good!

If you could have a drink with anyone, who would it be and what would you drink?

I would more than love to drink a cup of coffee with Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn and just visit them and talk.
