Exclusive Interview with Up and Coming Country Songstress, Tana Matz

Exclusive Interview with Up and Coming Country Songstress, Tana Matz

Thanks for chatting with us! Can you tell us a little bit about how you got into music?

I’ve always loved music growing up! I remember listening to Britney Spears on my Walkman in my carseat over and over again. My mom would write out all of the lyrics for me so I could learn the words. From then on, I always knew music was a big part of who I am, but I was too shy to really show my loved ones that side of me. I taught myself how to play guitar and when I was 17, that’s when I sang for my friends and family for the first time. After that, it was history!

You’re new to Nashville…welcome! How has your music career been going here compared to your music career in Cincinnati?

Luckily things have been moving pretty quickly! I’ve met amazing friends who have helped the process greatly. People here just understand this lifestyle and appreciate the art so much more. It’s truly humbling and so exciting to be here.

Your new EP, “In Time,” just came out and it’s fantastic! Tell us about it!

I can tell you that these songs mean the world to me. Two were co-written with a few of my best friends the others are straight from my heart and life experiences! It sat at #5 on the iTunes country pre-order list, hit #48 on the all genre pre-orders and then went on to release at #11 on the iTunes country chart. I already feel so blessed with how it’s been received and I’m so excited that people are really digging it!

Who inspires you musically?

This is always such a difficult question for me to answer! So many people from so many genres – any music inspires me really. Carrie Underwood, Hillary Scott, Kelsea Ballerini, Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, Bazzi and Camila Cabello have been my latest ear candy/inspiration outlets!

Do you write your own music?

I do! I wrote all of my music by myself up until the writers of Nashville totally inspired me to get into co-writing as well!

What are your goals for 2018 as a musician?

For 2018, I wanted to find a great manager and wanted my EP to hit the top 20 on the iTunes country chart, which have been accomplished! Now, I’d love to be able to get a song on an iTunes or Spotify playlist!

Now for some food questions…

What was your favorite meal growing up?

Anything steak or shrimp.. it was always such a treat!

Would you rather cook or eat out?

Cook! I always think, “I probably could’ve made this better,” when I eat out! But I do love the convenience of not having to cook sometimes. Wow… I don’t sound cocky at all!

Do you have a favorite restaurant in Nashville yet?

I love PM Burger! They have the coolest mix of burgers and sushi…seems like a weird mix, but it just works!

Cincinnati is known for the iconic Skyline Chili. Are you a fan? If so, what makes it so tasty?

Don’t even get me started. I am such a fan! My Nashville friends probably get annoyed with how much I talk about it. I worked there for almost 3 years and actually would love to own one someday! I love the entire menu, how simple it is and how it just makes you feel “at home.”

@tanamatz 😍😍😍😛

Name three things that are always in your refrigerator.

Almond milk, kale, and frozen meatballs!

If you could eat or have a drink with one person, dead or alive, who would it be and what would you have?

Definitely Jesus, and I think I would wait to see what he gets!

Tana Matz is a country music singer from Cincinnati, OH who just recently moved to Nashville, TN. When it comes to the artistic part of her life, she loves to sing, write songs, perform, and play guitar and piano. Music is her passion; she could do it all day. She realized she had an ear for music when she was five years old and began playing “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion on her multicolored xylophone.

By age 15, she had taught herself guitar and played piano mostly by ear. It wasn’t until she was 17 that she had gained the courage to sing for her parents. She has been blessed to release her debut EP, “Just Fly,” that has been supported and played by several online radio stations. She just released her new EP, “In Time,” which debuted #5 on the iTunes country pre-order list, hit #48 on the all genre pre-orders and then went on to release at #11 on the iTunes country chart. She’s had the privilege to open for Kellie Pickler, Kip Moore, Cole Swindell, Brett Eldredge, John Rich, Dustin Lynch, Cannan Smith, Russell Dickerson and Joe Nichols!

She wants this dream of hers to become reality for many reasons. Not only for her own personal happiness, but she wants to inspire people and be a role model. She wants to help the people in her life and try to make this world a better place for as many people as she possibly can.
